Byrds Of Paradise - Teenage Symphonies LP DGR 039

Teenage Symphonies Lp features 10 tracks of druggy, scuzzy, stomping pop music from Brooklyn-based Byrds Of Paradise! Must be something in the water out there, cuz peeps residing on the "fertile crescent" that is Brooklyn/Williamsburg sure have a lock on this sorta sound - a murky mash-up of the scuzzier side of Seventies & Eighties underground pop. However, Byrds Of Paradise keep it interesting by throwing a dash of the more-melodic side of Nineties D.C. area post-rock (so would that make it POST-post-rock??) a'la Crownhate Ruin or Karate. Here's what their label, Don Giovanni has to say: "At once filthy, dreamy, druggily intoxicating and soberingly intense, Brooklyn-based BYRDS OF PARADISE churn out slop pop tunes wearing garage/psych/punk clothing that are as sweetly sticky as they are layered, noisy and driven.

The band, started by D.C. expatriate KENNY BROWN in late 2009, is clearly informed by classic D.C. punk sonics, although not defined by them. That winter, Brown left D.C. to return to his New Jersey home and dedicate several weeks to recording a long- planned demo with his dear old friend and now singer JARED J. JONES (ex-DUSTHEADS). Brown then relocated to Brooklyn, where a full band came together with ALAN YUCH (ex-MONGOLOIDS) on drums and BRENDEN BRITZ (SUBWAY SADISTS, WHITEWORKS) playing bass. Byrds of Paradise released their debut "Rowena" 7-inch on Wild Words records, followed by their Don Giovanni Records debut, the "Omega Man" 7-inch and their most recent 7-inch, "Barefoot Paradise," on UK label Sleep All Day Records. The newest addition to the Don Giovanni family ." Check it - don't wreck it!! (Permanent Records review) I also included a link to their Omega Man 7". Enjoy!
